In this session, we will become more familiar with the ACTFL Proficiency Guidelines, explore best practices that lead to proficiency, and examine national assessment data from programs where students are successfully reaching levels of proficiency, allowing them to pass the AP Test, continue their language studies post AP, and inspiring them to continue their journey and growth in proficiency beyond the classroom.

Connecting With Students IRL
Who are your students? Do you know? Connecting with students is a fundamental part of creating a successful learning environment. It doesn't have to be complicated, time consuming or difficult but it does need to be intentional. This session will highlight successful strategies that students love and consistently mention in end of the year feedback. Learn how to create a more positive classroom environment, increase student engagement and have fun with your students!

Session 15 (6-Uni)

Laura Edwards, ISU
Internationalize Your Major in College!
Students should Internationalize their Major in college! I have worked extensively to help students learn how to earn a language major or minor and study abroad (any length) as an add-on to their intended major. Often students want to continue language learning in college but are 1) convinced it leads to no jobs and 2) there is no time in college to take it. WL teachers, arm yourselves with this valuable information that could help with HS retention in your WL and convince students of the ease with which they can complete a language major or minor within 4 years of college.

ROOM D
Session 16 (K-Uni)

EXHIBITOR
Kelsey Catena, Wayside Publishing
On-Point Feedback with Single-Point Rubrics
Frustrated with providing meaningful feedback for your students? A single-point rubric may be just what you need! This session looks at what a single-point rubric is, how and when to use this type of rubric, and how to provide meaningful feedback and grades using one. In addition, participants will work on creating their own single-point rubric.

ROOM E
Session 17 (9-12)

Tianzhou Ye, Li Ye, & Janet Wang, Adlai E. Stevenson HS
Lessons Learned from the Pandemic
This session examines the valuable lessons we have learned from the pandemic. We look at the abrupt changes we were first forced to make at the start of remote learning, the improvements we have since made, and the positive experiences we have had this year. We summarize best practices and educational tools that we will continue to use to increase student engagement, ensure equity, and make learning meaningful.
