Chicago Area Chapter AATSP 37th Oral and Artistic Contest

The Chicago Area Chapter AATSP will host the 37th oral and artistic contest that honors the memory of a past president, Fenando Mendoza. The poster contest is open to students in grades 6-12 and the Poetry Contest is for students 1st - Jr. College. The event is on November 19th at Niles North High School. ICTFL is very excited to share our 2017 ICTFL Professional Learning Opportunity in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands.  We are partnering with EF to bring a very unique tour to our members that includes an optional opportunity to partner with a fellow Ecuadorian teacher during the 2016-17 school year.

ISBE announces Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy Implementation Rules!

Per the ISBE website, a school district may establish a program to recognize high school graduates who have attained a high level of proficiency in one or more languages in addition to English, by designating on a student's transcripts and high school diploma his or her receipt of the State Seal of Biliteracy.  To do so, a school district must apply (application PDF below) and follow the ISBE rules and procedures.  The proficiency level required to receive the Illinois State Seal of Biliteracy is Intermediate High (see the performance descriptors for this level at

Congratulations to Kathleen Priceman, ICTFL 2014 Teacher of the Year

Kathleen A. Priceman, a fourth grade Spanish Immersion teacher at Abraham Lincoln School, Oak Park, IL is the Illinois Foreign Language Teacher of the Year.  She will compete this Spring in Minneapolis for the honor of 2015 Central States Foreign Language Teacher of the Year.
