ICTFL Professional Learning Tours

In 2011, the ICTFL Board decided to host annual summer Professional Development Tours to service the needs of Illinois language educators. Illinois teachers have since climbed Machu Picchu in Peru, fed Giant Pandas in China, visited urban farms in Havana, Cuba, made fresh mozzarella in Italy, swam with giant sea turtles in the Galapagos, heard the thunder of the Iguazu Waterfalls in Argentina, and walked the streets of Dbrovnik, Croatia as seen in Game of Thrones. We plan for amazing memories and unique experiences. Our goals for these PD tours include:
I hope you'll join me, members of the ICTFL Board and your fellow Illinois language educator colleagues on our next unforgettable journey through Panama.

- Provide language teachers the opportunity to have a "novice learner" experience -- to empathize with their students by spending time in a language and culture foreign to their own.
- Give language educators opportunities to practice language and learn about culture in places not usually traveled to with students.
- Plan educational experiences such as school visits, teacher exchanges, and hands-on learning with locals and award teachers ISBE Professional Development credit hours or college credit required for license renewal.
- Create a learning community open to educators (and their guests) and invite them to have fun exploring the world with like-minded adventurers.
I hope you'll join me, members of the ICTFL Board and your fellow Illinois language educator colleagues on our next unforgettable journey through Panama.

Panama 2023
"CROSSINGS" makes a great theme for our 2023 Panama Tour.
The 2023 Panama Tour highlights include an opportunity to visit the Miraflores Visitor Center in the Panama Canal zone, the Chagres National Park and Emberá indigenous village, Panamá Viejo, the Bio Museum designed by architect Frank Gehry, and to see the creatures of this amazing country, from the slow-moving sloth, to swinging monkeys on Monkey Island, to the Marine Research Center and its aquatic creatures. Come and learn with us. Illinois PDs are available, so take this opportunity to build lessons and units that combine the rich Panamanian culture, the U.N. Sustainable Development Goals and your own personal travel experience.
